Musicians who also are linux users are already pretty rare (they may look numerous from the rg-devel point of view, but that's just because they all gather here), but musicians using Solaris ? I'd already be hard pressed to find someone using Solaris at all nowadays, let alone a musician.
Yes ! Of course : the Solaris users and musicians makes like i : one Solaris partition as principal, a second partition under Linux especially for the music composition (Rosegarden at first), because the API. But this design is only a wait solution.
Yes yes yes : and RG is yet a great thing, everyone can see (and heard> - I'll try to send a copy of this interessant discussion to the > rosegarden team, in the case where they have the idea to produce some > development for help us (like also BSD and OSX) :D Let me be frank : we barely have the resources to develop RG on Linux,

- Don't forget all Posix : HP, AIX, Irix : as example, OSS provide for all Posix.so there's no chance that we're going to spend time and brain cycles to make it work on another system, unless we'd be sure that we'd meet the needs of *a lot* of users. A possible first candidate would be OS/X. The BSD family would be a very distant second. But Solaris
Very interessant : Stefan Teleman, the moderator of the kde-Solaris list (adaptation from each version of KDE to make it compilable not only with GCC, but also with the Solaris native compiler) told me (that appears yet on the Opensolaris forum) that he's working on a native Solaris driver making the OS able to accept Jack as API, if i good understood : in this case, RG could work directely on Sol without ALSA, only with Jack wich has, as you know, low latency itself. If it works for the next version of Sol10, the task will for you "only"doesn't even come into consideration. We'll accept patches

As conclusion i repeat : my idea is not Solaris for Solaris ; simply the reality is that RG is yet the best in the domain, so good as Cakewalk on W..., and it could be damage that it rests unavailable on most Unix systems. It begun, if i good remember, on Solaris and Irix..., if someone really wants to take on this task, but that's all.
Cheers,
Sergio.
