I'm coming to be of the opinion we should ditch the "classic view" idea, and just switch to tabs. You don't want scrollbars, and if I compress the layout top to bottom with, say, four sets of widgets per row label [button] label [button] it will probably just exacerbate the problems with the thing being too wide. The rest of this will mostly be confined to layout changes to my patch of TrackParameterBox, some stuff somewhere in the notation editor, and entirely new code elsewhere. I don't think it's worth going into a branch for that, personally. I've been trying to stake out my territory so you (and Michelle) would only have to contend with any conflicts once.
