I didn't tweak anything, because I have no idea how to tweak anything and am not even sure if I'm expected to tweak something. Full debug build with all options TRUE: PCH: real 11m52.095s user 8m41.077s sys 1m13.334s No PCH: real 15m44.583s user 13m5.823s sys 0m59.931s gcc (GCC) 4.0.3 (Ubuntu 4.0.3-1ubuntu5) Let's see... Not exactly 100% accurate, but fairly close. For comparison, I dug a build time report out of an old message from early July. real 11m49.907s user 9m6.444s sys 0m43.527s The new build system is probably close enough to what I found in July that various background factors (eg. what else I was doing with the computer at that time, differences in the kernel scheduler then and now, whether that build in July was a debug build or not, etc.) probably eat up the small time difference one way or the other. So I'd say this PCH thing is a remarkably effective achievement, in comparison to the non-PCH build. I quite like the new build system too. If you leave every other consideration out, you sold me with the purrrrrty coloooorrrs! I love colors. -- D.
