2006/12/5, D. Michael McIntyre <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:
I'm thinking with so many of our users running Ubuntu or Kubuntu, it might
behoove us to pay attention to their release schedule, and try to sync
ours
to theirs if practicable. If we throw out a bugfix 1.4.x and want it in
Feisty, it looks like February 8th is their final deadline. We usually
try
to do something on February 14th, but maybe we should consider a closer
date.
If we don't change anything as it stands now, it looks like they will ship
with 1.4.0 at least. I need to verify that. I'm a little freaked out by
pictures of Rosegarden 1.0 on the Ubuntu Studio site, and especially keen
to
avoid *that* happening.

Rosegarden 1.4.0 is in Debian-etch:
$ apt-cache policy rosegarden4
rosegarden4:
Installed: (none)
Candidate: 1:1.4.0-1
Version table:
1:1.4.0-1 0
990 ftp://ftp.fi.debian.org testing/main Packages
500 ftp://ftp.fi.debian.org unstable/main Packages
1.0-1 0
500 ftp://ftp.fi.debian.org stable/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
It is also in Ubuntu feisty/universe, see
http://packages.ubuntu.com/feisty/sound/rosegarden
A bug fix release would easily go to Feisty.
Even more interesting would be to produce a new major release soon enough.
A few of the old bugs fixed and some new features, reorganizing
the code base and the change to new make system are already good
enough reason to publish a new major release. Releasing often
will lead into increased publicity and invite new people into development.
More people involved in development brings in new ideas and leads to
accelerated development.
