Oh, and percussion notation. We can't currently do anything at all in this area, and it severely limits Rosegarden's usefulness for writing real music for real ensembles.
Old suggestions back to the fore here too. A new two bar percussion clef, and some way to adapt the percussion key map to height on staff and so forth. Much research about how percussion notation actually works would be needed to have any hope of getting it right, but basically the idea in all cases is going to be some relationship between height X and pitch Y that would otherwise make no sense. It couldn't work like a normal clef, but would have to have some kind of height by height lookup table data structure. Internal MIDI pitch works out to F so we draw an F and we actually play MIDI pitch 19 or whatever. Or we store the MIDI pitch, and have to convert 19 = height_of_first_space_F, 23 = height_of_middle_space_C or something. It doesn't seem impossible, but it's going to be a huge side project for somebody on top of a million other things. Damn we could use some help. -- D.
