Buttons eat GUI space, and this is already too cramped. OTOH, we'd want this to be immediately apparent to users, and something on a menu or context menu might escape notice. It *does* sound very useful. It sounds like what we really need is some kind of notation layout overview windows, that works something like the track list/segment canvas, but better represented in notation terms. We talked about some place to configure staff groupings and other such. This would be the place to do that too. Easy to daydream about, much harder to go write it, which is always the problem around here. Anyway, I've said what I wanted to say as far as keeping every user in mind. I'll be happy to let you make up your own mind which way seems best from here, and implement according to your own taste. There's no use waiting for anyone to agree on anything around here.
