Having spent a long time on a Graphics View implementation of the ControlRulers, I've now decided these are better done with custom widgets. This is mainly based on the fact that, for the event rulers (as opposed to the property rulers) I'm using markers for events that I don't want to change size during a zoom and in GraphicsView, I had to redraw everything when the scaling changed so I thought I might as well draw it every time anyway...
Anyway, in case I'm wrong in this (and I'm making some fairly deep cuts to this code) I'd like to start comitting work to a temp branch but don't know how.
