I'm thinking button release ending a selection makes the pointer try to move
somewhere logical close to where the button was released. That could work,
but it's hard to say without trying it out.

Rearranging really big top level things like this at the last minute is a
pretty dangerous thing to do, because it's hard to really understand what you
expect something to do until you try to use it for real in random everyday
situations, and it fails to work as you intended. The only way to iron this
kind of thing out is to do it hands on.

That means the only way to see how it's going to work is to try it, but let's
try it as an experiment with the understanding that it might not make the cut
for release, depending on how many wrinkles there are to iron out.
