I don't think it matters much. We all understand what you mean now. They were thinking you meant something like the old "system timer resolution is too low" warning dialog that starts EVERY TIME I start Rosegarden Classic. How irritating! What you really mean is something like the new warning widget I wrote, where you click the /!\ and it shows the explanation whenever you're ready to read it, and you can ignore it easily. Your idea will work fine. > I didn't know /!\ has some level related significance. > I take it for a very general warning, as the similar road sign is (at least > on this side of the sea). I'd take it for a general warning too, but I guess when I think about this I'm not sure if it qualifies as a warning or just a "for your information." That's what I was getting at. Mismatched key signatures are very likely to be wrong. Mismatched clefs though? What if I have a separate voice in a bass clef part that is written in treble clef? These clefs would not match, but the mismatch would not indicate a serious problem in that case. This is the sort of general thing I was thinking about with my previous statement. I haven't really experimented with different kinds of conflicting overlaps to see what the more reasonable possibilities are though. Additionally, I think it might be an opportunity to have some fun. Instead of a /!\ draw a confused looking treble/bass clef, and instead of a /!\ draw a key signature made of sharp/flats. Something that says "I do not know what you want me to be, and I am confused" in a funny but dignified way. It's just a thought. Please do use the warning icon for now, and get your work done without worrying about this detail. -- D.
