I would call that a "cautionary" too, but it turns out this option does not 
put the extra accidentals in () as "cautionary accidentals" after all.  It 
just draws extra accidentals.  That is something of a surprise, but at this 
point we will just look at what it really does and go on.

Here are two screenshots I hope make things more clear for you.  All the notes 
in both screenshots are F# in the key of C major.
