Those terms don't mean anything to me, so I don't know.

The sub-beat setting comes into play in compound time signatures.  Let's take 
the time of 12/8, with bars divided into four beats, and each beat having 3 
sub-beats.

If we count "bars only" in 12/8, it comes out like:

ONE...............................  TWO...............................

If we count "bars and beats" it comes out:

ONE ... two ... three ... four ...  TWO ... two ... three ... four ...

If we count "bars, beats and sub-beats" it comes out:

ONE 2 3 two 2 3 three 2 3 four 2 3  TWO 2 3 two 2 3 three 2 3 four 2 3
