Hello Ted and Michael,
I like consistency. I've been the author of several such changes myself.
I see the benefit of having the same keystroke perform the same action across
editors. I can't deny this.
But the long history of the shift+click shortcut on the main canvas is a pretty
large hurdle to overcome. I think there needs to be good reason to change the
historical behavior. Is consistency across the editors enough justification?
I think the answer is debatable. Currently we have no user friendly way to
update shortcuts. If this were easy for a typical user to do, then I would
just say leave it be and let users change the default shortcut.
But, I do know a workable shortcut editor is in the works. Well, I tried the
prototype and have seen recent commits to the branch. So I imagine the editor
is still making progress.
So, in anticipation of a shortcut editor, I would have to vote against changing
the long standing shortcut.
I suggest that we leave it be and plan for users to change the shortcut if they
need consistency across the editors.
Sincerely,
Julie S.
