Thanks! Quite busy here, but following this thread with interest. It sounds like you two can probably come to some middle ground soon, and we can think about merging this into trunk. I think this is one case where it's better to merge early, even if it's something very immature with lots of kinks to work out. In trunk, the kinks annoy everyone, and people help you work them out. In a branch nobody in particular is following, the burden can be overwhelming, and features have a way of rotting if they stay in a branch too long. I don't want to miss this one.
