It's true that every US elementary school kid has played with a soprano 
recorder and a ukulele, sure enough.

I'm interested in the idea, but it depends on how much work this turns 
out to be.  If the fretboard infrastructure is built in a way that's 
conducive to changing the number of strings and so forth, then we can 
probably do some cut and copy and twiddle and come up with some new 
parallel stuff for the uke without a huge amount of effort.  If it's 
seriously hard wired for guitar, then it's just too much work.

I haven't looked yet, and don't have time at the moment.  I'll keep this 
in mind and try to have a look soon, so we can establish whether there's 
anything to pursue here or not.

No matter how it turns out, it's a very reasonable suggestion.
