I haven't done any measurements but would be *VERY* surprised if MIDI
would force USB datarate to "a mere 31.25kbps".

After all MIDI as invented ages ago is the name for two different things:
1) an encoding scheme or logical protocol (the MIDI msgs and codes we
   use for Note On/Off, Volume, SYSEX etc. pp.)
2) a HW specification with plugs, wires and physical clock

It seems quite obvious that "MIDI via USB" while belonging into the HW
department is something completely different from 2) as of above and thus
I don't see why it would be limited in clock (which would have no benefit
whatsoever anyway).

However I'm sure this could be found in the net somewhere :)
