I have no problems with Eclipse 4.7.3 (Oxygen) under Ubuntu 17.10.
Haven't done the upgrade to Ubuntu 18.04 yet. Planning that sometime
this month.
Thank you very much for your excellent information.
From my research of the problem so far, my problems (where I do Java
development), is that the latest Open-Java (on 18.04) does not work with
Eclipse.
They recommend installing Oracle Java 8, using a PPA, which is
compatible with Eclipse Oxygen (I think it is called).
Normally, when you install Open Java, you get all of the Certificate
Authorities (I think that's what CA stands for), for the providers of
revocable, code-signing certificates. But when Oracle Java is installed
via the PPA, the certificate authorities are not included, so Oracle
Java thinks code signed by a certificate authority, that is revocable,
is simply a self-signed certificate, resulting in all kinds of problems
for me.
I think where you are not doing Java development, you may not encounter
the problem I encountered.
