It appears that Rosegarden 17.12.1 is less able (or not able) to save MIDI device associations in a '.rg' file than it used to be.

What I encounter, is that I have saved a '.rg' file associated with a hardware MIDI interface (in my case, an old one - the UART coming from a Soundblaster card).

But when I later load the file, it has associated the MIDI device name with a different MIDI device, such as Qsynth, or one of the Soundblaster emu10k1 synthesizer ports.

The routine that is responsible for this is AlsaDriver::setPlausibleConnection().

This routine does some logging to the audit log which you can examine by going to Edit > Preferences... > General icon > Behavior tab > Details... button. Look for the "setPlausibleConnection" entries. E.g. here's a .rg file trying to find an M-Audio Uno interface and failing:

AlsaDriver::setPlausibleConnection: connection like "20:0 USB Uno MIDI Interface MIDI 1 (duplex)" requested for device 1
AlsaDriver::setPlausibleConnection: nothing suitable available

Ted.
