We should probably just delete the modprobe paragraph and drop the
"Alternatively". This is just outdated advice that no one has noticed
until now. Here's the rewrite:
--- CUT HERE ---------------------------
Rosegarden was unable to find a high-resolution timing source for
MIDI performance.
Check whether your Linux distribution provides a multimedia-optimized
kernel. See the Rosegarden website for notes about this.

Then perhaps a link to the right page on the wiki? Maybe this for now:
https://www.rosegardenmusic.com/wiki/low-latency_kernels
It's outdated, but it's a start.

I see that when I open Rosegarden, a small warning icon shows up at the
left bottom of the screen. When I click on it, a warning pops up:
System timer resolution is too low!

However, as far as I know, that modulehas been removed from the kernel:
https://patchwork.kernel.org/project/alsa-devel/
patch/1461373085-16679-1-git-send-email-alexandre.belloni@free-
electrons.com/
and loading it is not necessary anymore (it seems that it's only really
relevant to use a kernel compiled with the PREEMPT_RT option).
I suppose the message is there because of old kernels still running (is
that true?) -- but then, would it be too hard to check the kernel
version (or check if the module is really needed) and decide to not show
the message if the module is not actually necessary?
J.
