I guess this is how the situation looks like at the moment unfortunately.
I would be also interested in having RG tempo sync, but I don't think it's
possible (unless something has changed since several months).
What I do to change tempo during playback, I use BPM bars in each of jack
clients, and set a new value in the same point in each application.
Not too flexible, but it works.
I know that Hydrogen can synchronize tempo with a Time Master application
(e.g. Ardour), but I guess it's impossible to do the same in RG.
I'd be very happy to see this feature in RG as well.
