My recollection is that it was something we were vaguely thinking about doing around five years ago, but there just wasn't enough interest from developers and users alike for the idea to go anywhere. As far as I know, it still hasn't, and likely won't, but a motivated individual wanting to get this done could probably make it happen. I think our driver structure is set up such that it should at least be theoretically possible to support different backends. Richard Bown is the only one who's ever done anything like that, to my knowledge. Other people have ported Rosegarden to other platforms, like BSD and OS-X, but nobody has ever gotten it working as anything more than a silent GUI. Nobody except Richard, that is. He is, therefore, the ultimate expert authority on porting Rosegarden's sequencing guts to other backends. Apparently it was all complicated enough to justify what amounts to a fork, rather than being able to get it all done under one roof in one codebase. It's neither my area of expertise nor my area of interest, I'm afraid. -- D.
