Where have you installed lilypond to?
If it's in /usr/local you'll be able to have both versions as debian installs
to just /usr

Instead of using just "lilypond" to launch the program your 'front end' will
have to do "/usr/local/bin/lilypond"

Say you have a poem and I have a tune.
Exchange them and we can both have a poem, a tune, and a song.
