Hi, Probably should have a line in there somewhere when hooking up RoseGarden using JACK and connecting to some (maybe all) external hardware synthesizers to NOT use the entry under the MIDI tab but rather the MIDI connections under the ALSA tab. Also it often helps to disconnect the sync MIDI output of RoseGarden as some external hardware synthesizers don't understand it.
That will allow both recording and playback as a regular user. This gave me no end of grief and confusion. The last three stable versions of RoseGarden have all acted this way. I record to RoseGarden and then take the recorded files (32 bit WAV) and mix them down in Audacity, usually to 7.1 flac, but sometimes just stereo flac.
