Thanks to Lisa Carnahan for tracking the list, and especially for
writing in! There's certainly no need for me to speak up, because Lisa
hasn't mis-characterized anything we've talked about! But as you know,
I'm not one to resist writing in. Indeed, we're thrilled to have NIST
take an interest in our modest effort to design a Healthcare CPP
Electronic Partner Profile Registry, and I join Rachel in
enthusiastically welcoming NIST as an active partner in the WEDI/SNIP ID
& Routing Group.

I want to add that NIST - the National Institute of Standards and
Technology (part of the U.S. Commerce Department) - will find that
Healthcare administration has perhaps more interesting needs than other
verticals, simply because we have so many possible identifiers which
would be used to key into the registry. This should make a prototype of
the Healthcare CPP Registry a more valuable testbed for evaluating
capabilities in the real world.

A number of Registry vendors have graciously offered their products and
services in assisting us in developing a prototype. But I think having
NIST help us in conducting a field trial adds a panache of integrity and
objectivity to our evaluation. And it goes without saying that if we
can pull off a successful prototype together, having the NIST imprimatur
will go a long ways toward influencing WEDI/SNIP and AFEHCT - to say
nothing of CMS - to formally adopt our recommendations.

Rachel and All,

I've been tracking this list for some time and have had discussions with
William Kammerer to do just this; that is, field a trial ebXML registry
to hold appropriate CPPs. (William: please speak up if I
mis-characterized our discussions.)

To introduce myself, I'm on the OASIS/ebXML Registry Technical
Committee. Given that the specs are relatively new, I have an interest
in determining if the OASIS/ebXML Registry specs are really usuable by
different industry segments. NIST would like to field a test registry
for WEDI/SNIP CPPs.
