LanMan98, briefly tried, does allow rpcemu/Ubuntu to see shares on the
Iyonix and similarly the LanMan98 Iyonix can see a shared directory within
hostfs.

That is possible. I now have spoon 0.8.5 on WindowsXP, well I did but XP has
crashed!! rpcemu was less than happy on my single cored XP, the mouse was
stuttery and was not always able to reach all of the RISC OS window.

rpcemu is processor intensive and hogs one processor in a two processor
machine, this may not bode well when there is only one processor to start
with.

VRPC was not too running with a single core, though some the Windows
underlying processes could hold it up.

Now to try to resurrect the XP box!!!
