Hi all,

motivated from a recent meeting of the German Archimedes Group I
decided to take a closer look at RPCEmu in order to find out whether I
can easily keep a RISC OS desktop in reach while not having to maintain
my Iyonix hardware (which hasn't been turned on for over 1.5 years for
now).

I'm running RPCEmu 0.8.8 (official release and/or self-compiled) on my
Debian GNU/Linux machine with either RISC OS 4.02 ROMs (using ADFS and
HostFS) or RISC OS 5.17 ROMs (using only HostFS as ADFS does not yet
work).

I thought it might be possible to connect the hard disc of my Iyonix to
my GNU/Linux box and just use "dd" to copy the whole disc image into a
hd4.hdf file and use that from within RPCEmu. I tried that just right
now but when booting with that image into RISC OS 4.02 using RPCEmu
0.8.8 I get the famous "Disc not understood - has it been formatted?"
message when trying to access the disc.

Is it not possible to copy a whole disc image from the hard disc into a
file for usage with RPCEmu? Do I have to skip some "partition table" at
the beginning? Or is this not possible at all?

I'd be happy to get some helpful input on this issue.

Greetings,
Stefan
