I would write that:

        Resolving simple build flaws and emitting a warning,
        rather than ...

just as GCC permits, but does not require, -Werror and -pedantic-error as options

That enables the Pedant to engage in self-abuse, without permitting him to become the dictator to require everyone else to follow the pedant's path to salvation or damnation
