ah, Are you suggesting that the NVIDIA 580xx driver should replace the main driver, meaning that the 590 driver would no longer be in the upgrade path and updates would go to 580xx instead, on Fedora 43 ? I don’t see any real advantage in doing that. We can insert the 580xx driver in the repository and continue updating the main driver as usual. If a given GPU is no longer supported by the main driver, then the user will need to switch to 580xx. I think this is the best and clearest approach, and it also requires significantly less work. Optionally, we could improve this by having the script detect unsupported GPUs and display a big, fat warning to the user. After thinking about it a bit more, we could also add an Obsoletes/Provides for the current version to force a switch to 580xx, if you think that would be beneficial. However, this would only delay the introduction of 590, since the replacement would only apply while the main driver is still 580. Once the main driver moves to 590, that mechanism stops working and may actually introduce even more confusion. > stable or introduce the nvidia-580xx serie.
