OK, so I have had opportunity to reboot the machine but now it is coming

But X is still trying to use nouveau. What is the missing step to tell X
to use the nVidia drivers instead?

every instruction how to install the nivida driver explains the blacklisting
like http://askubuntu.com/questions/481414/install-nvidia-driver-instead-nouveau

FWIW, I'm running F22 with the nVidia drivers and the file
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-nouveau.conf does not exist on my system.

the you have blacklisted it on the kernel line or the file just has a different name, the point is that you need to blacklist it somehow
