Hi Oliver,
Compiling it is not straightforward, and most of the offers to do so i
have seen to do so did not go far.
Moreover, compiling is only a fraction of the problem: the code base has
evolved a lot since I last supported Windows (when just looking at the
number of lines of code, it was multiplied by 2-3 according to
http://www.ohloh.net/p/rpy2), and the C-API for R is notorious for
having differences between the different platforms. This means that a
coding effort is needed.
From a recent post on the mailing-list:

The Windows community appeared very little concerned about contributing,
I am not using Windows with rpy2, and I am otherwise fairly busy. This
lead to an announced abandon of support for Windows until someone offers
to either sponsor the port or contribute the code.
If you wish to discuss more specifics, do not hesitate to mail me off-list.
Best,
Laurent

Hi Laurent,
indeed, we bundled everything on a windows platform with an older
version of R than that of the user who is using the application.
How can I/we contribute to getting Windows support back on track?
Personally, I have never compiled binaries for any platform, so if
there is a discription/recipy how to do that, I or my colleague can
give it a try.
best wishes
Oliver

Your bundle is likely overriding the user's local R install.
I am guessing that there is a bundle including on older version of R
because rpy2 is currently no longer supported on Windows and its older
versions no longer work with recent R binaries.
A way to solve this might to help getting Windows support back on tracks.

Dear list,
I am not sure whether this is the appropriate list to ask, but I'd
like to use it as a starting point. If I should address this problem
some other place, please let me know.
Within our research project we are developing a small data analysis
application called "ConsumerCheck" which uses the following software
packages:
Python 2.7
numpy
wxPython
rpy2 and R 2.11.1
We ship an .exe standalone to our research partners that installs our
little application on windows platforms. Now I have got the following
report by one of the users:
[user feedback START]
I use "StatConnector Server" quite extensively to run R analyses from
Statistica
(the stats package I generally use). I have in the recent past
suddenly noticed
that my macros are not working any more, and through extensive
postings to the
RCOM mailing list, I determined that when I create a "StatConnector"
object, the
version of the background R is 2.11.1. I found this very strange as I
am already
a couple of versions past 2.11.1. I searched the computer registry
and it appears
that ConsumerCheck is using R v2.11.1.
It now made sense to me because it was probably after I installed
Consumercheck
that the problems with my macros started. I subsequently uninstalled
Consumercheck
which then solved my problem.
[user feedback END]
Has anyone encountered this problem before? If anyone has an idea how
to fix this problem or any suggestions that bring us a bit further to
solving the problem, we would be very happy to hear from them.
Best wishes
Oliver
