Try the different versions from sourceforge:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/rpy/files/rpy2/
I don't know how far back you need to go to get a 2.4 compatible version.
Laurent can probably tell you.
Depending on how complex the other library is, it might be fairly simple to
update that for a more recent version of Python.
