Wishing alone does not make the facts go away. RPy / RPy2 still link to R, and use its headers. The GPL is hence suitable by its letter, and as I argue, also by its spirit. It is known that Python folks disagree in the matter. Which is fine. You do have a choice: You can eg use an Rserve client and connect over tcp/ip ("loose coupling", to pick up on my earlier terminology).
