You may have mentioned this before but if you did I certainly don't remember now. What should be the cause of this problem is another rrdtool process (or another program) still having the file open. While having the file opened it will put the file in read-only mode (sort of) for other processes. Normally such a process should terminate, thereby releasing the lock (as it is called). After that, other processes can write to the file (one by one). Maybe you can find a "hanging" process. When you stop that process, the file lock should go away and so should the lock. Hanging processes should not occur however stranger things happen in our universe.
