Since you know you are a beginner, why don't you start with something
less complicated?

You don't have to follow the tutorial however I've seen at least one
problem in your setup that could have been avoided.

When you started programming, did you start with printf("hello\n"); or
did you start with a complete replacement for bind right away?
Never mind, I probably don't want to know that answer :)

Seriously, start with one DS, one RRA and create those test images.
This is the best help I can give you.
