First of all: make sure you're comparing appels to appels. Perhaps the interface counters do count error packets; the ifInOctet/ifOutOctet counters do not. Perhaps the interface counters do count protocol overhead (I don't know if you were describing a serial link or so) and if so: maybe the ifInOctet/ifOutOctet counters do not. Then make sure you are graphing what you think you're graphing. It's probably best to set start time, end time and graph width to something suitable. 24 hours is 288 intervals. Just do --end 'hh:mm' --start end-1d --width 288 (fill in HH:MM). Do the same for your fetch command.
