You need to know how it was created, with the dump utility...

rrdtool dump filename.rrd > filename.xml

in the XML file, take note about DS name, DS type, Last Update, and if you see 
the Round Robin Archives you can get the first entry date, and  CFs. Its all 
that you need to graph

The XML could be large file.
