How could this be done with VDEF?
I'm cuurently using rrdtool 1.1, but haven't discovered the advantage of VDEF
yet ;)

Recently I tried to make the same thing with rrdtool 1.1, selecting data for a
month (in this case, 1-aug-2003 -> 31-aug-2003) with a resolution of 86400 (a
day, doh ;)) and plotting the average * 86400.

But I ran into a few problems. First rrdtool cant create bars, only an area
that looks like a lot of bars. And secondly, the grid and data won't
correspond with each other (the graph won't start at the gridline but the
first line appears around 2~4 px later)

I made a quick graph to show how I have it now:

That is how I have it now, but I want it to look more like:
http://130.89.224.242/stats/img/total/gb.png
(with 'real' bars and not the inconsequent jumps from the first graph)

I'm afraid it won't be possible with rrdtool, but maybe someone else has come
further in creating bars then I am and is willing to share that knowledge.
