Rutgers University has a fairly expansive RPM repository of open source software compiled for a variety of Solaris platforms. Yes, RPM does get a bit outrageous at times, but it's not that difficult to snag the appropriate packages and repackage them into pkg using a little CPIO magic. It works well when you're in a pinch.
