Imagemagick enables you to combine two .png files together and is a command
line editor/tool for data manipulation. Thus you could make a complex
multiscale axis and overlay it on an rrd graphonly. The image below is just
the rrdgraph combined with a scale.

I understand imagemagic is linux and windows I run it on an NSLU2 "embedded
slug"....
