Hi all, I'm using RRDtool 1.4.5 on a small embedded machine (single core with 400MHz) running on Debian Squeeze.
During regular update every 10s it is running fine and fast, taking some miliseconds. But sometimes it happens that the machine is down for some days or even weeks, so there is no further update of the .rrd files. After restart the first update to the rrd file takes very long, if the machine was down for 10h it takes about 2 Minutes to process. During this time the CPU is under heavy load most consuming system CPU time (%sy in top command) and therefore blocking other processes too. When looking to the rrd with "rrdtool fetch" I see a lot of "nan" between the last old and the first new update, so there was nothing consolidated or recalculated within the gap by the first new update. (This is also what I expected to be in the gap) Why does RRDtool update take so long on the first update after the pause? Is there any way to speed up this first update? Does an upgrade to a newer RRDtool version help?
