How about changing it to "first value in the RRA", plus a note along the lines of : "The value returned will always be the timestamp of the last completed entry in the RRA minus the timespan covered by the RRA*. For RRAs which cover a timespan longer than the periods covered by updates, the returned value will predate the first update."
