I have submitted an updated version of the IRON draft based on
some new insights:

  http://www.ietf.org/id/draft-templin-iron-07.txt

This new version of the document makes some major conceptual
improvements over the previous versions. IRON is now a hybrid
system of tunneling and native routing, where the native IPv6
and IPv4 routing systems are leveraged for shortest path routing
whenever possible. Tunneling is used to keep PI prefixes out of
the global routing system, to accommodate nodes behind NATs and
to provide anchor points for mobile networks without the need
for adjunct mobility management mechanisms like MIP and NEMO.
A simple route optimization mechanism using redirection is
provided to reduce path stretch and to reduce load on
performance-critical infrastructure elements. Multihoming and
traffic engineering are also naturally accommodated. The
document also includes several new diagrams which should
make it easier to understand.

As far as I can tell, there is no requirement that the document
be finalized ahead of the IETF77 I-D submission deadline since
RRG will not be meeting. Therefore, I'd like to extend the review
deadline for IRON until COB on Monday, July 19th. Please post
comments to the list as replies to this subject heading.

Thanks - Fred
