I think there is a fuller form which loops over a lot more.

Autotest.add_hook :initialize do |autotest|
  %w{.git .svn .hg .DS_Store ._* vendor tmp log doc}.each do |exception|
    autotest.add_exception(exception)
  end
end

This I found on the Getting started with Autotest. I'm really junior at
this, but, when I get home, I can see if I can't find my complete Autotest
file and post it. I just googled a lot to find it... and, I really don't
know all of the potentially created files for Rails 2 apps. I started with
Rails 3.
