I don't remember whether we've gone over this, but is there a reason to prefer 
U+nnnn over
the Unicode character descriptions, rather than to say use either depending on 
context, e.g.:

"A color display should be able to differentiate šŸ”“ (U+1F534), 🟢 (U+1F7E2), and 
šŸ”µ (U+1F535)."

"A color display should be able to differentiate šŸ”“ (LARGE RED CIRCLE), 🟢 (LARGE 
GREEN CIRCLE), and šŸ”µ (LARGE BLUE CIRCLE)."
