Thanks - I didn't see this option.

The principle is. The manpage isn't. The manpage didn't help at all with
compiling and installing ssh on Win95/98/NT/2000. It was reasonably
straightforward for Linux and Digital Unix systems, although the bugs with
ssh added more headaches (re: socket pairs vs. pipes, non-blocking I/O,
etc.) which have still not been resolved for everyone.
Regardless, I still maintain it was a headache for *me*. I'm pretty
stupid, I admit, but I'm supposed to be a physicist, not a computer jock.
If you only want rsync users that understand all the intracacies of public
key cryptography, TCP/IP, Unix, Windows etc. then sure, leave it all
as-is. If you want something a little more user-friendly, being able to
use rsync without having to also install ssh/sshd would be a step in the
right direction.
