Hello, all, Many of you may not know who I am but I am a new maintainer of rsync brought on after the AI-pocalypse of June. Most of you should have already seen/heard of 3.5.0; fortunately thus far we have not seen a incredibly significant influx of regressions due to the thorough testing we embargoed privately.
However, nonetheless, with such a large security hardening release; there are regressions. All of which are more or less edge cases which is also quite fortunate. I have fixed approximately 10 whereas a few other contributors have volunteered their time to resolve a few others which we should all be immensely thankful for, particularly to Omar Elsayed and Samuel Henrique. We wished to catch as many edge/corner cases as possible and as no regressions were incredibly significant we have delayed the regression release quite a bit. However, we are now relatively confident that all of the major ones have been / will be resolved relatively shortly to schedule the release of Rsync 3.5.1 on the 21st September. My current plans are for the 21st of September 1pm AEST (21 Sep, 3am UTC / 5 days from now / Monday). We will keep you updated in the case of the release, both if it is delayed due to a new regression, or if it remains as planned. I would also like to request from you all to please test 3.5.0 and submit any regression you may find to us on https://github.com/RsyncProject/rsync as this will be your last chance before the 3.5.1 release.
