Hello rsync list readers,
I am new to the list so I apologize in advance if this topic has been
addressed already. I did not find it mentioned in any of rsync's
documentation.
I have been having an on-going problem completing rsync transfers.
The transfers simply stop at seemingly random points without printing
an error message. Rsync still continues running however all network
activity dies. I can verify that all communications stop using tcpdump.
I experience this while uploading to an anonymous rsync server as well
as using ssh as the transport. If I keep restarting the transfer it
will eventually complete. I am using rsync to back up entire Linux
filesystems, so the transfers are quite lengthy.
>From what I can tell the problem is not limited to a specific machine
or set of machines, although the machines I use are all running Debian
GNU/Linux on the Intel platform. I always use rsync compiled from source,
rather than using the Debian rsync package. I have checked to make sure
that both the client and server have plenty of free memory when doing
the transfer. I'm not sure what else could be the culprit here.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thank you,
Ned Bass
