There is no "rsync password". There is the user's Unix password, that is used for
authentication by ssh. But see next response.

With ssh, you only need to open the ssh port. And you can configure it to only allow
certain users from specific hosts to connect. And if you add in IPFilter and
tcp_wrappers, you can do even finer grained control of access to the machine. :):)
