What version of rsync are you running? I saw some of the 2.4.x's lose
track of what they were doing and get lost. You might consider an
upgrade (or even try a downgrade if you are really having trouble). 

Suggestion: use the --timeout option. That has helped a lot on the
rsync's I'm doing.
