Just wanted to respond back that this did indeed solve the problem. So in my case, the method used to solve the configure script issue and then be able to run make was....
$ LDFLAGS=-L/usr/local/lib CPPFLAGS=-I/usr/local/include ./configure Many thanks for your response. Have a wonderful weekend!
