More info follows, but v5 has exactly the same tls subsystem as v4. So we need to track that bug down.

So perhaps I > should just cut free, and install 5.x stable? unfortunantly the current 5.2 stable release has some known problems. the 5.x development is looking pretty good right now, but it is very much the bleeding edge of things. if you need a newer stable version _now_ go with the latest 4.x if you can affort to test the 5.x development branch, it will probably work (I've found it stable over the last couple of weeks, running at loads of ~10,000 logs/sec), but as always you may run into unexpected problems (like you did with 4.4.2). I don't use encryption so I can't vouch for that part of things.
